  1. So I am looking at what we already run in our current offensive scheme and wonder if we need to run the give to the FB in the series since we already run ISV? I know that we would not mesh with the BSHB but by the time the QB pulls the ball off the mesh it doesn't really matter anyway. I love the give to the BSHB off tackle and the QB keep off the 2nd mesh especially in SY situations. Denny, do you think we need to even have the FB dive phase?
  2. It looks like they block it different from wing-t teams. I think they place the OT on the safety and play side OG on the ILB. Has anyone tried to run it that way?
  3. If you wanted to run Tide vs. a 4-4 how would you block it? Have the TE release and block ILB and read the 7 tech as the dive key while doubling the 3 tech? Then place the WB on the CB. Does anyone simply block down with the TE and read the OLB as a give? Is this tough since the aiming point of the FB is the tail of the OT and then he must bend it outside the TE downblock?
  4. 4 yards away. We do not cross block on belly, we base it.
  5. We have done it. We should do it more often. We run no mo rocket and belly when we do that. We mix it up and do not do this consistently so we often catch the defense on its heels.
  6. So we used to run sally pulling the BST and filling with the FB. We got away from that last year and turned it into tackle trap and had some success. This year tackle trap has been bad we are not teaching it any differently but we play teams that really squeeze a veer block well since we run a lot of option and our tackles are constantly getting wrong armed. Does anyone have any ideas? Maybe we should simply go back to sally where the PSG/PST pass set and the BST leads up the hole.
  7. On Rocket he is flat. On Belly we pause and then send downhill.
  8. So when you run the stack, what is your rationale? Do you attempt to snap the ball quickly before the defense gets set?
  9. How many of you regularly use shifts? I was considering stacking all the skill players behind the QB and then bursting to the called formation. Do any of you do this? If so, any coaching points? I was also considering a scramble where we give each position a number of formation alignments and they can choose where to align before getting to the called formation. Do any of you do this?
  10. Good idea. I was just toying with running a screen away from waggle action.
  11. We faced a team that often blitzed away from our motion and caused some problems for us. We ran a power shovel pass that worked okay but struggled running waggle. We also ran a 1 step slant away from motion that was effective. Any other ideas?
  12. TE over. Run Empty and check away from strength.
  13. Coaches, We normally run tackle trap to the TE side vs. 50 front teams and have been successful. We would like to run it to the SE side too but wonder if the 9 tech will fold inside and cause problems. Do any of you run Tackle Trap to the SE side? If you do, is there a way to hold the 9 tech from crashing?

    Trap

When we run jet/rocket well. We really emphasize our OG's/OT's to run their veer path and anything that crosses their face they block. The fakes are also very important. We like trap off jet more. Having your FB understand his path and how he must bend it behind the OG/OT veer blocks is important too. Do many of you trap away from motion?
  15. Coaches, What route do you prefer the play side SE to run on waggle and why? We have run a post corner route in the past but have seen some run a comeback or a 10 yard out.
  16. I see that the jet back is still in motion. With the back in B gap or behind the OT, do you need to still use motion? We have a cadence of Ready-Set-Go and the jet back takes off on the "S" of set and it times up well. How would this change the timing?
  17. How are you accounting for the BSILB who is keying the OG? Do you run this away from motion too?
  18. What is the QB/FB footwork on the false pull by both OG's vs. the 50? Any other ideas on how to screw with the ILB's vs. a 50 who key the OG's?
  19. Do you use your TE or another SE in that set?
  20. Empty formations with a TE/WB and then having the QB check to #'s advantage. QB looks at safeties; 1 high TE/WB, 2 high Trips side.
  21. Coaches, We are working on our youth football web site and I am wondering if it would be helpful for parents to have a section on concussions and concussion education. I would post a number of articles and videos about the topic. The idea is to educate but not scare. I am trying to decide if this helps or might hurt our program since it brings the concussion issue to the forefront. Thoughts?
  22. They did not show film of it. My guess is that the pulling OG would always get in front and not cause problems. My biggest concern is getting in the way of the pitch. He emphasized that if the the FB ran a straight path to the tail of the OT and then flattened out to get in front of the safety/LB. It sure would be nice to tag our rocket and get another blocker in front. I would like to find out if anyone has tried this?
  23. So I was watching a Tom Herman clinic on the rocket and he had his FB taking a direct path to the butt of the OT play side and then flattening out to the near safety leading in front on rocket. He claimed that the FB would not get in the pitch path and becomes another useful blocker on the full flow action. Have any of you sent the FB play side with this path and found it successful?
  24. 1 step vertical and aim at near goal post. vs. Cover 2 we want to flatten the path and aim at near hash.
