  1. No, that was one of the things we did away with. We open up with belly and down (no reverse), we run jet motion and run the FB behind the jet motion on belly and down.
  2. Coach Carver, we have run UC and shotgun and went to pistol in 2014, I do think it gives us the best of both worlds. The pistol has been very good to us. We run: Bucksweep, Trap & Waggle and Bucksweep with offset fb, Power & XX Belly & Down (with a pass and counter off both) with jet motion Jet and Rocket (with companion plays i.e. waggle, counters) Sprint out passing. Quick passing (Coach Cobleigh version) We are considering installing veer and midline this year.
  3. Game week for us would be... Monday: All Sophomores/J.V. are gone to game. We show the kids 30 min. Video of next opponent, Top 3 run plays/Top 3 pass plays. Then we go outside. We do 10 min. Jet Drill (used as conditioning with line), 10 min. Bucksweep, 10 Min. Waggle, 20 min. for Defensive Scouting Report and Formation Adjustments. Tuesday: Dynamic Warmup, Punt Team, Kickoff Return Team, Fr-So Group Offense/Jr-Sr. Group Defense, Jr-Sr Indy Offense & Group Offense/Fr-So Indy Defense & Group, Team Defense, Followed by Team Offense. Wednesday: Dynamic Warmup: Kickoff Team, PAT-FG Team, Jr-Sr Group Offense/Fr-So Group Defense, Fr-So Indy & Group Offense/Jr-Sr Indy & Group Defense, Team Offense, Team Defense. (Keep in mind that wherever the Fr-So group is, that the Jr-Sr group are on the other end of the field working the opposite side of the ball. While we are on special teams our coaching staff usually does agility or tackling with remaining kids.) Thursday: Hay is in the barn. All special teams, offense & defensive situations. Run base plays and run through defensive formation adjustments. Pretty standard stuff. To answer your defensive group question, we do a tackling/take-a-way circuit, We do a inside run period/outside run & pass period. D'line & inside backers do inside run, while outside backers and secondary to outside runs and pass defend, similar to 7on7. When we do Offensive Groups we have the line work blocking schemes vs. fronts we may see and QB's, backs and receivers work passing game on air. Some years we have enough numbers to split our qb's & backs into two groups, one for run period, the other pass period. 10 min. each then rotate. Receivers would stay with the passing group. Hope that makes sense. Any questions let me know.
  4. Coach, Here is an example of how we break it up in our practices. This is only the Indy and Group Periods for Day 1, Day 2 would be the opposite. 4:00-4:15: Jr.-Sr. Offensive Group / Fr.-So. Defensive Group (Early in season this could be Indy Period instead, we would adjust as needed) 4:15-4:30: Fr.-So. Offensive Indy / Jr.-Sr. Defensive Indy 4:30-4:45: Fr.-So. Offensive Group / Jr.-Sr. Defensive Group Hope this helped clarify things.
  5. Coach, This may not help you, but we started 1 platooning our coaching staff. Meaning each coach only coaches one position. You would need at least 6 or 7 coaches to make it work. If it is a offensive day for our Jr./Sr. group, they will get both indy & group and Frosh/Soph would be doing the same on defense. If it is an offensive day for the older kids, then the younger kids get to have either indy or group period only & vise versa. The next day we switch. The kids move and coaches stay in their position areas. This does a couple of things. One, it allows all of your coaches to see every kid in your program 9-12 everyday. Second, your coaches can get good at their position group. And third, you get to spend quality indy/group time with each level on your team. I think it is one of the best things we have done. But it does require you to have enough coaches that you can trust to do things how you want them done.
  6. Coach, Do you still run belly? Or does Bama replace belly?
  7. Anyone read the book "Brainwashed" by Merrill Hoge? Just started it, wondered if anyone else has read it.
  8. Thanks Coach. We have mandatory outside releases too, but have never called it MOR. Makes sense. We have Hudl and we are at Murphysboro High School in Illinois. Should pop up when you type the name of the high school in . My email is gcarter@mhs.org
  9. I would love to see your video. I can give you some of our video, but we only threw for just over 300 yards this year. Can you explain what MOR is?
  10. We are at 3 yards deep, Fullback is 5 yards.
  11. griff22 are you under center when you are running your Wing-T? I would be interested in seeing your passing game, if you would be willing to trade some video. We are Pistol Wing-T.
  12. I was told many years ago that it was because of the path of the fullback "bucking the line". I believe Chuck Klausing told me that, but not 100% certain.
