  1. If you're in a bunch set could you send one wing in joker, FB runs toss action away from motion, and you run intercept to the other wing?
  2. ...if you're playing a spread team that runs some jet, but doesn't major in it, and doesn't use a wing, would you put in an auto blitz to give them a hot 2 when they ran it?
  3. How are y'all teaching your line for the shield? Splits and releases? We do it mostly just to get them spread out a little toward their lanes, but it's something we definitely could focus more on.
  4. I came up as a QB coach and always considered blocking to be the limiting factor and that we could teach the QB/RB's to do whatever in the backfield lol.
  5. How about using a speed out cut? Gives you a vertical release for 3-4 steps but it's a quicker break for a route you're not trying to disguise much.
  6. Toss Read would be a fairly easy add. Gives you a speed option look with using your existing power blocking, and let's you use more formations.
  7. Those who vote decide nothing, those who count the vote decide everything.
  8. Hindsight is 20/20 coach. If I were running for 400+ a game I'd go for it too.
  9. I was drawing some stuff around and remembered something a team ran against us a few years ago and thought I'd share it. We were a 50 front playing a spread team who would occasionally go under center and/or bring in one of the slots in to a sniffer position. They ran a play a few times at us where the Center would base the Nose, Guards would fire off onto ILB's, and Tackles would base our 4/5 techs. The Sniffer would slide step inside and the QB would hand it to him and he would follow the Guard. It wasn't a huge play but it hit so quick it was very consistent. Thought it might be a simple add to Bear/Bull if anybody wanted to play around with it.
  10. For a 3 man surface, is the dive key on Tide going to be #1 in the outside count pretty much every time?
  11. The formation system is in the 'Beyond the Edges' book.
  12. Thanks. I like the look of the empty stuff too. I want to play with some nasty splits too, both from North and Cowboy.
  13. What would/do you do vs. a 5-2/5-3 that doesn't drop ends but adjusts with LB/DBs? They may or may not reduce vs no TE. Seems like everybody in our conference went odd front all of a sudden last year and I'm not sure they're very good at lining up to multiple formations so we want to stress them as best we can.
  14. I generally have such a strong tendency to call my best one or two base plays on first down that I like to call a special (reverse / deep shot play action) off of it on first downs.
  15. Count me as coming from out of state!
  16. Not sure I get to post this here as we weren't really hybrid wing this year. Weren't even wing, we ran exclusively from Tiger and ran power/trap/counter and belly/belly sweep. Anyways this was a pretty good team we had coming back after a few down years and we got it all put together and ran the table. 8-0, conference champion. We chose the power/belly stuff because it was similar to what we ran the year before with them as 7th graders. I really gained a lot of experience with belly this year. I understand why Coach E says it's the straw that stirs the drink if you've got somebody who can run it.
  17. 5-0. Clinch the conference championship if we win tonight. Belly is our money play, with Belly Sweep off of it. Also some trap and power and waggle. Everything out of Tiger so far, we're just pretty damn good this year personnel wise. We had a lot of good returning players, which is rare for us, so we made the decision to go with something they were kind of familiar with from last year.
  18. Congrats Coach, great story. When I read this all I can do is shake my head and sigh. Coach E knows what I'm talking about.
  19. Found this in my files, is this it? warzone.doc
  20. Well after thinking and rethinking it we ended up installing Right/Left Stud formations and running HB power (YX), Belly Base, and Waggle for the jamboree. Which ended up getting rained out anyway. So I pretty much ended up out thinking my self. Lesson learned, I'll start with Rocket from day 1 from here on out. On the bright side, we got some real good work on power and belly, which is always a good thing, imo. Also did some work out of Tiger and I really liked it.
  21. In one of my more brilliant coaching decisions we've signed up to go play in a jamboree after 3 days of spring practice. I'm looking to try and have rocket/intercept/belly/waggle somewhat ready to go. Is that too ambitious? Basically starting from scratch so we'll be teaching it all brand new to this year's team. My other thought was to go Belly/Bellysweep/Wing trap/Waggle and not start on rocket til the next week. It's just a spring jamboree so I'm not gonna get hung up on the results, but I'd like to at least look prepared to play and get a couple of base plays going.
