buckeye7525
Where is the TE read in the Waggle Progression? Tradtionally he's been our 3rd look but we have a really dynamic TE this year that I want to make sure we are getting involved.
Denny Dierick
The TE is our 2nd look in the Waggle progression. We tell QB to "peek" deep and then look TE to FB to run. In HS football that TE is basically always open - it is stealing. We stress that TE go under 1st LB and over 2nd LB. Work to "open area" 9-11 yards over opposite ghost TE area. Also, stay 2 yards behind QB on crossing route. Finally, if QB wants to always go deep and incomplete, the read progression becomes TE to FB to run. buckeye7525
Denny, thanks! Is there ever an issue with peaking at the TE first and then by the time you get to the FB his route has been covered? We've always looked at the FB first because alot of times its the first route to pop open but I like the way you are talking about reading it. wingtconvert
consider running your WR on a curl and your TE deep playside. Still 3 levels, but if your TE is a playmaker you could spring him deep. we run this, but the other way (waggle back to the TE side). We have our TE run a 10 yd out and the backside slot sprints for the frontside flag. corners almost always stop their feet when the TE does. safety usually takes 2 steps to stop bucksweep and is out of position. buckeye7525
So instead of the TE's Drag flattening out around 10-12 yards he just continue pushing deeper to the Corner area, correct? Just a Corner coming from the opposite side of the formation .

CoachW64
The TE drag is 2nd in our progression, Peak deep, TE Drag and then Green Grass run your A@$... We use the FB mainly a decoy for the underneath guy to have to choose whether to over under the TE or take the FB unless our QB can't run and then the FB is the 3rd option. We also use variations similar to those already given. Two variations we do that I haven't heard that may help is 1. We call switch and the TE and Wing switch Routes, TE would have post and Wing would have the drag... and Streak.. Where the TE has a Seam route and Wing Streaks across to the heels of a single high safety or splitting two high (never happens cause if someone is playing us 2 high we are pounding the ground until they bring the safety into the box)
